Apartment in Cape Town
Market House, Flat 402.
Entire Place • 2 guests • 1 bedroom • 2 beds • 1 bathroom
It is a fourth floor flat within a building complex encompassing a bedroom, kitchen, toilet and shower. The kitchen is fully fitted which leads to the balcony that overlooks the sights and sounds of Greenmarket Square.
The apartment is situated in the centre of Cape Town and comprises of kitchen, with all the necessary appliances and utensils for self catering purposes. Then there is the bathroom/shower/toilet and bedroom. The bedroom is fitted with two three-quarter beds that can be moved together at the behest of the guests. There are built in cupboards for hanging clothing. It is secure and safe and housed within a complex on our famous Greenmarket Square. It is on the fourth floor and overlooks part of the city that can be viewed from the balcony which leads from the kitchen. It houses two guests comfortably with the facilities that are available.
Market House is a secure complex and has security twenty-four hours, seven days a week. There is also a lift that carries guests from ground to the fourth floor, on which the apartment is housed. It has also been declared a heritage site, in two thousand five and refurbishments had to be executed in order to strengthen the building but all original fixtures and fittings still remain that gives it a distinct character.
Built in the nineteen hundreds it has a history that many of the surrounding buildings, except the Gallery opposite, do not have. Unfortunately, however, parking facilities, in those days, were not catered for or thought of and this is a draw back for guests arriving in rental vehicles. There is, however, a public parking facility that is two minutes away where rental vehicles can be parked overnight or during the day. The current pricing is R 30 per hour (Euro 1.85) which, for us is quite costly (in Rand terms)
The complex is situated virtually on Greenmarket Square and as you walk out into the daytime traders and souvenir stalls are right there to explore and barter with pricing for souvenirs to buy.
I am always on hand to welcome guests to the apartment and to conduct a little "tour" of it and to explain certain aspects of their stay and to, before hand, make everything as comfortable and convenient as possible, before handing over the keys.
I will be on hand to assist in anything that is required in the apartment, during the guests' stay. I do change the linens and towels every week, for guests staying longer and anything sooner will an exception rather than the rule.
Within the heart of the city, where we are situated, it has a vibrant atmosphere and it is filled with tourists, virtually, throughout the year. December /January is the high season with a larger than usual influx of tourists. There are many, many places of interest that are within walking distance of one another (there are organized walking tours) and there are tour buses that will take tourists to other parts of the city that is not within walking distance. This is within five minutes walk of the apartment.
The Houses of Parliament is up Government Avenue which is a seven minute walk from the apartment and includes a walk up the St. Georges Mall.
At the top of Government Avenue, just across Orange Street is our famous Mount Nelson hotel, named after the famous Briton, Lord Nelson. In Lower Burg Street, there is an open air tour (red) bus that can be hopped on or off during a tour of the city. There are also tours out to the Southern Suburbs which is quite scenic, and Sea Point, and Hout Bay.
Airport transfers is available to those guests not renting vehicles which would cost Euro thirty (30) or thirty-five dollars ($35) to the apartment(one way)
The attractions in and around the city is the Company Gardens started by Jan van Reebieck in 1652 when he landed at the Cape. Our Anglican Cathedral with its splendid stained glass windows that are all a walking distance away from the apartment. Walking tours are also available just outside the complex, right on the square, if any guests are interested. The Cable Station is another added attraction along with Signal Hill right next door where the city can be viewed in all its splendour, especially at night. This is a route that the HOHO (Hop On Hop Off) bus includes. The bus also transports tourists to the Waterfront, situated in the dock area where many shops and restuarants are available. Here the ferry can be boarded, after tickets had been acquired, even online, to be taken to our famous Robben Island where the late Nelson Mandela spent his twenty-seven year in incarceration.
The bus also has routes to the Botanical Gardens in Kirstenbosch where the suspension bridge is quite an attraction. Further down south of the Peninsula, tourists can stop off at the Penguin colony to view them from not-too-far a distance. And, of course, Cape Point must be included where, supposedly, the two oceans meet. These are some of the attractions that are available among many others and one needs lots of time to explore all the many places that make Cape Town a worthy Capital to travel to.
